Tune creature doodles

I had a fleeting idea while driving to school of a creature with organic holes up either sides of its neck with petal like covers, air would move through the open holes and depending on how many or which ones were open the creature would make a different sound of sorts, kinda like a flute. I played with them more during class and now the concept is further that it sort of swallows air and stores it in sacks in its legs right before it sings. Another idea is they have various tendonous strings within their neck (the area in which is connected to the holes in their neck, i imagine they have a throat for eating and a throat for singing and breathing that are kinda separate) that allow them to make harp and string instrument type sounds.
They use there songs in displays to attract mates and scare away predators and also communicate, the petal like covers are brightly colored and very mobile, so they are able to use them like communication flags if they are very distant from each other by flashing them in a sort of visual morse code.
I imagine they might occupy the same slot as a mixture of cats and swans/peacocks, beautiful and pampered in captive  by also mischievous
