OK so, in the last... week or so I have come across... 5-6 people who have traced/referenced/mimicked/etc my art. I have contacted most of them but the others I have not contacted yet, I probably will soon.

Point is, I do not understand why people are doing this and thinking I won't notice? I mean, I am the person who draws all the things I post and I remember all of them and working on all of them so its kinda silly to think that I wouldn't notice if someone traced something or referenced something or just blatantly copied something (I'm not even kidding here, it kinda sticks out like a sore thumb, even vague pose references, I really do notice them, plus I usually check stuff like colors and image overlays in photoshop)
Please, before you think my art is good for copying or referencing realize that I myself don't even have a firm grasp on anatomy, and that it would be much better if you went onto google and used multiple images of real animals for reference, OR you can go and browse DA's stock images because that is what they are there for

My art isn't here for referencing, tracing, copying, or mimicking. Especially when my permission isn't asked for. It would be really great if at least the original works were referred back to. It cuts out a lot of the possible drama and turns 'i think you mimicked my art w/o my permission i'm not ok with that' into 'thanks for referring back to me but next time you think you could ask before you reference?'
To be honest if you see this journal and read the above ASK before you reference. I personally am usually not ok with it but some artists are.

Another thing I have noticed is style mimicry, specifically those weird arm and leg loops I draw on everything. Unless you have a character I made that you purchased or got in a trade you shouldn't have any reason to be using these. I am very protective of them and as far as I know I'm the only one to be using them so it is kinda hard to defend the use of them if your not me... or the character isn't connected to me in some way. Also don't mimic other things that makes a specific artist's style unique, try to come up with things that will make you unique instead.

Seriously in the long run mimicking is a terrible idea because you can end up stone walled into a corner of style theft and not be able to really break out on your own. Plus people notice it over time and get mad and its just a bad idea.

On a slightly more personal note, art theft of any sort is also super stressful, I've had to deal with contemplating how to go about approaching these 5-6 people in the last week. When I'm dealing with just one account of art theft I find it so stressful I get sick to my stomach, and I have had enough. I'm usually pretty nice about this stuff and keep it private but this has gotten to the point where I can't deal with the stress and I feel this needed to be said.

I'm sorry you have to go through this, I as an individual have not experienced art theft but I think I would very upset as well.

I use a lot of artists as inspiration, mainly Griffsnuff's artwork because it is simply beautiful. oh, a dash of Suikuzu's work as well. I look at their artwork and think to myself "I'm gonna draw something as awesome as this".

But of course, I wouldn't dream of stealing nor tracing. I occasionally look at a piece of artwork on here for a little inspiration as well while drawing.

I hope it's sorted out :)
