Original Species Tutorial [Focus] by Fumi-LEX Focus panel of species tutorial by Fumi-LEX

before I head out on my trip I want to post this. It was suppose to be apart of a group of panels that encompassed the steps to creating an original species that was going to be a collaboration but it sorta fell apart. Anyways, this was my panel, which I still feel like it has some good points on its own (though I would have much preferred it to be with all the other panels) and it feels pretty relevant with a few species mimics popping up that past couple days.
I cannot stress enough the fact that there are SO MANY real world animals that are weird and cool and full of neat traits that can be used as inspiration for an original species. This is my advice on anatomy and body structure to anyone who is thinking about making a creature or develop an original species. Also, actually look at real world creatures, I looked at various photos for all my example animals, and they all look distinct even though they are all in the same style and color, if your trying to create something and it keeps looking like a dog even though you want to draw an anteater mixed with a rabbit creature then actually look at photos of anteaters and rabbits for inspiration.
I hope this helps.

image, art and example original species are mine, don't be a thief, my art is not free use nor to be used for reference, that is what photos and stock images are for.
